The Northern Leadership Academy (NLA)

Based at the University of Liverpool Management School, the NLA portal is dedicated to the development of Leadership skills in the North of England. Its underlying aim is to deliver improved economic, efficient and effective business performance. The NLA portal will act as a one stop shop for leadership, bringing all leadership information together and acting as a support tool for individuals and employers wanting to become better leaders.

Aims
THE NLA portal will develop more and better leaders throughout the North of England by raising the awareness of the benefits of leadership skills development, whilst signposting to suppliers of leadership provision.

• To collect and disseminate best leadership practice.
• To stimulate the market and raise the awareness of the need for leadership development.
• To identify and support leadership training delivery.
• To learn and challenge what works well, identify best practice and to provide a positive impact on leadership in the North of England.
• To support the development of world class skills in leadership and management in the North that have a real impact on regional productivity and competitiveness.
  

The NLA Mission
What lies at the heart of the NLA's mission is focussing on leadership as a key skill that can be improved by all individuals and organisations. Increasingly 'good leadership' is cited as imperative to success but this is often confused with 'good management'.
Many experts also now agree that the concept of great leaders being 'born' and not 'made' is now discredited – and that a collaborative approach to leadership throughout the entire organisation delivers the most benefits to all parties.
